政府関連サイトのほとんどは『国歌』と表記。しかし航空省のサイトのみが上記のタイトルを記載している。

不明
長い間、作詞家は不明とされていたが、2009年、ドイツを拠点に活動する学者Michael Kwame Gbordzoeが、現在の歌詞は自分が作成したものであり、公認するよう当時の大統領に請願したことを公表。2013年には公文書によって、その事実が判明した。しかし、政府は承認を発表していない。

Philip Comi Gbeho（フィリップ・グベホ）
1904年1月14日、ヴォッツァ村生まれ。1949年、当時の宗主国イギリスから奨学金を提供され英国の音楽大学に留学する。帰国後、国歌コンペに応募し優勝。以後、ガーナ芸術協会の設立に尽力し、同国国立交響楽団の音楽監督及び指揮者を務めるなど精力的に活動した。1976年9月24日逝去。

成り立ち
植民地時代は宗主国のイギリス国歌が歌われていたガーナ。1957年、独立宣言の式典に合わせ国歌が制作されることとなった。国はコンテストを行い、最終選考に4作品まで絞る。選ばれた作品はラジオで流され、リスナー投票で圧倒的な支持を得たのが、フィリップ・グベホによる「Lord God Our Father We Praise Thee」が歌いだしになる作品だった。しかし彼が提出した歌詞は「宗教的すぎる」と判断されメロディのみ採用。国の公文書によれば、“原因不明の理由で、政府はグベホが作成した歌詞を破棄し、委託された文芸委員会が作成した新しい歌詞に変えた。1957年3月6日に国歌としてグベホの音楽と一緒に使われたのは、この歌詞だった。”とある。
しかし、元ガーナ大学副学長のAddae Mensahによれば、歌詞は政府が却下したことで、式典には間に合わず、歌詞なしの国歌が演奏された。その後、グベホの曲を使用して、歌われる歌詞を制作するための委員会を設立したと述べている。実際、独立記念式典の動画を見るとメロディだけが流れている。
また、最終選考に残った4つの作品すべてを拒否し、Ephraim Amuの「Yen Ara Asase Ni」を国歌として検討すべきだという考えがあったという。
これらの資料や証言によってメロディはグベホによって作られたことは間違いない。しかし、独立後歌われていた歌詞は、現在のものではなく文芸委員会が作成した「Lift High the Flag oh Ghana」が歌いだしの歌詞だった。
近年、自身が詩を書いたと発表したMichael Kwame Gbordzoeによれば、1970年代から使用されている現在の歌詞は1966年の軍事クーデター後に作られた。当時ヨーロッパのガーナ学生自治会の会長だった自身が新しい歌詞を作成。クーデターによって生まれた軍事政権の行政機関だったThe National Redemption Councilに提出したものが採用され今に至っていると主張している。

国歌を歌った後、国家への誓いを述べることが多い。自身が国歌の歌詞を作詞したと発表したMichael Kwame Gbordzoeは、この誓いの言葉も作ったと主張している。

2017年、ガーナ建国60周年を記念し国民教育委員会が11言語に翻訳した国歌を制作した。翻訳は言語局によって認定されている。翻訳された言語は以下の通り。

1942年8月AwateTodzi生まれの学者で詩人。1964年ドイツ・シュトゥットガルト大学に入学し物理学と哲学を専攻。1970年代、ヨーロッパのガーナ学生自治会長就任。1982年からイタリア・アブドゥッサラーム国際理論物理学センター（ICTP）の準会員に任命される。現在はドイツ在住。
