成り立ち
1965年2月の独立を目前に控え、国歌と国旗を決めるための国際的なコンペティションを経て採用されたのが現在の国歌だった。曲はマンディンカ族の伝統的な歌「Foday Kaba Dumbuya」がベースとなったとされる。Foday Kaba Dumbuyaはガンビアの英雄的の名前で、イギリスとの戦いのさなか、70歳で戦死している。
